What Is My Zodiac Animal? Find Yours by Birth Year

Enter your birth date to find your zodiac animal from the 12-year cycle, the traits traditionally linked to it, and one simple practice to grow its best qualities.

The 12 zodiac animals are a tradition shared across much of Asia, offered here for reflection, not prediction. Your date stays in your browser and is never sent to us.

The 12 animals

The zodiac follows a 12-year cycle, and each year belongs to an animal: rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, goat, monkey, rooster, dog and pig. The same cycle is used in China, Vietnam, Korea, Japan and Thailand, with small local differences: in Thailand the dragon year is often drawn as a naga, a great serpent, and Vietnam has a cat in place of the rabbit.

The new zodiac year begins at the Lunar New Year, in late January or February, so people born early in the year may belong to the previous animal. Some traditions start the year on a different date; the finder shows both animals when your birthday falls in that window.

A mirror, not a destiny

At ANEW we treat your animal as a mirror: a playful reminder of qualities worth growing. The Buddhist view is that character is shaped by what we intend and do each day, not fixed by the year we were born. That is why every animal here comes with a small practice. For more on this, read astrology and what Buddhism says about fate, or find your birth day and its color.

Years shown start at the Lunar New Year of that year.
