This article describes Thai cultural tradition. It is not Buddhist doctrine, and nothing here is a prediction.
In Thailand, every day of the week has a color, and Wednesday's is green . People born on a Wednesday often think of green as their color, and many Thais wear it on Wednesdays, especially for special occasions.
This is a Thai cultural tradition, not a Buddhist teaching and not a prediction. We share it as a small daily reminder to pause.
Blessed colors to wear on Wednesday
In Thai tradition, the best colors to wear each day come from the taksa system, an old Thai wheel of the eight planets of the week. Starting from Wednesday's planet, each position on the wheel gives a color a meaning:
| For | Color |
|---|---|
| Luck and money si | Black, brown or gray |
| Work and success det | Orange or deep orange |
| Help from others montri | Yellow, white or cream |
| Health and calm ayu | Purple |
| Best avoided kalakini | Pink |
So on a Wednesday, many Thais reach for black, brown or gray for a lucky day, and leave pink in the wardrobe. Some astrologers publish their own yearly lists, which can differ; the taksa wheel is the traditional base most of them start from. Enjoy it as a custom, not a forecast.
Why Wednesday is green
The day colors come from Hindu astrology, which blended into Thai culture centuries ago. Each day is linked to a celestial deity, and Wednesday belongs to Mercury (Budha), whose color is green. See the full chart in Thai colors of the day.
The Wednesday Buddha image: Holding the alms bowl
Thai temples often have a row of eight Buddha images, one for each day of the week, with Wednesday split into day and night. People make offerings to the image of the day they were born.
The posture: The Buddha stands holding his alms bowl with both hands in front of him.
The story: The bowl is a reminder of the alms round, which Thai monks still walk every morning: a life that depends on the kindness of others, and gives back teaching and example.
Wednesday night
Thai tradition splits Wednesday in two. People born after about 6 p.m. on a Wednesday belong to Wednesday night, linked to Rahu, with its own color, usually given as a dark green or gray. Its Buddha image is the Buddha in the Pārileyyaka forest: seated, with an elephant offering water and a monkey offering honey. Tradition tells that the Buddha withdrew to the forest when the monks of Kosambi would not stop quarrelling, and the animals cared for him there.
A small practice for Wednesday: receiving with thanks
Notice what you receive today: a meal someone cooked, help you did not ask for, a kind word. Receive it fully, and thank the giver.
