The place
Dharma Vijaya Buddhist Vihara, "the temple of the victory of truth", says it was founded on 20 April 1980, with its main support coming from a group of Sri Lankan Buddhists. It is maintained today by Sri Lankan, other Asian and Western Buddhists. Its site lists Venerable Walpola Piyananda as abbot.
The site describes services in the shrine room at 6 am: offerings to the Buddha, a sutta recitation invoking blessings for the world, and a loving-kindness meditation. It also records the monks' work to bring communities together in interfaith dialogue and after the Los Angeles riots.
