The place
Dhamma Dhara's course page says the Shelburne centre, founded in 1982, was the first in North America. It began as a two-storey house and barn on eight acres; in 1989 meditators donated an adjoining seventy acres. Today it has 108 acres, two dining rooms, a meditation hall for 200, a 140-cell pagoda, separate residences for men and women and a teacher's residence.
